Has anyone here figured out how to bench test one of the new GM radios with the new 24 pin connector on the back? Do these radios have to have the data signal from the BCM to function? I'd like to be able to varify that thes pull outs are functioning before I pass them on. Any ideas?

Intresting question. You could get a DMM and test the voltage going to the unit at power up perhaps. If not cut the switched wire and measure the impedance similar to doing locks on a Dodge. You trying to sell 03 factory radios??? Bad idea, rumor has it they have VIN idenity and are not interchangeable. Prove us to be wrong!! Please..!!

You require special expensive equipment to hook up any GM class II data radio on a bench. The radios work through a vehicle data bus system. Unless you want to spend thousands of dollars, forget it.

Assuming the radios are equal, you can swap them the dealer just has to get out the tech II and program the radio to the new vin..We do a ton of head swaps (people with factory tape wanting cd player or dual media or vice versa etc) and basically if it's a brand new radio, you can put it in and it should work fine or sometimes may need minor calibration. (It will display CAL ERR) If it has been previously installed in another car, they will need to go in and program it to the new vin.
Not a huge deal either way just a lot of the dealers aren't up to speed on how to use the tech II properly in this scenario.
As for the original question, I don't think your going to get very far trying to bench these without some extra equipment, as mentioned. We send a lot of these out for repair, but I don't know offhand what they use to test and fix them.

You could use the metra 71-2003-1 harness adapter, it will give you powers, ground, speaker ect. (its the other end of the keep radio in car kit). As far as data wire, it shoud not be affected for you to test the unit. If the car works without the radio, the radio should work without the car.
