Ok, I am a complete newb to installing a quality sound system.  I really could use some help!  Thanks for any help you guys can give!  Here is my dilema... for the past 6 months I have been making fg kickpanels and small stuff for a friend of mine.  Basically he put the system together (subs, amps and whatnot) and i built the enclosure...thats all i ever did.  Now that I have moved I am going to put a system in my truck however never picked up on waht all i will need.  So my question is can someone map out everything I'll need for a system?  Something like:

Subwoofer 4ohm, Amp 1000W and so on....

thanks a ton!

btw, for us to suggest something more specific, you would have to be a little more specific. what kind of system are you looking for here. Something that sounds like ur live and in concert, or something thats gonna rumble ur car to pieces. Also, an approximate price range you are willing to spend would be beneficial too.

Ok... thanks for all the replies!  Thepimpfromchi thats what i was wanting... but since i see the great support i wouldnt mind some more detailed help!

I am driving a 99 Dodge Daktoa Reg Cab.  I am looking ot put two 10" subs, one behind each seat.  I can build the box without too much a problem, jsut need subs with a fairly small mount depth.  Uhmmm, I am not sure as to price range I am looking at... is there any way i can get a list of a Top of the Line system, a Mid Level system, and a Budget system?  Thanks if you guys can!!!

What I want to hear really i cant explain.  I listen to all kinds of music and just want some good bass.. and hell its fun to boom from time to time.

Thanks for all the help!!

OH.. i already have some simple upgrades in my truck.  I am running a SonyCDX-L410X Deck  and Pioneer speakers.  Two in door, and two in rear.  If that helps any.   I would like to upgrade to the Sony CDX-M800<>wS('185','5') sometime soon however.

Ok, I have found some 10" subs for a VERY decent price. Just wanted to know what oppinion anyone has of them.
MTX Thunder4000 T4104A
10" 4-ohm Component subwoofer

If i buy 2 of these subs what sort of other equipment will i need? What amp should i get and is there any other equipment that i will need?

I would buy something like the JL W0 instead if you are looking for a quality sub that plays loud, and these are about the same price as the MTX subs except better. I bought my 12" sub for $129 or so. If you still want three different system's then tell me and i can give you a good list.posted_image

THe list would be great!  The reason I mentioned those MTX's is i can get two of them shipped to me for $70 new.  Im on a tight budget (gettin married soon) so i cant throw tons of money onto this... so im looking for as good as i can get for as little as i can spend.  I do realise that im going ot ahve to pay a good chunck of money.. but i could use some help making that chunk a chunk rather then a boulder!

O.K Im guessing you want to start from scratch so thats what ill do. First for your head-unit I would reccomend the Alpine 9823. The CDA-9823 has two sets of preamp outputs and its amp is 18 watts X 4 RMS. Next for the front speakers I would reccomend Boston's FS50 component set. Your original door opening is 6 3/4 but these smaller speakers will be easier for your head-unit to power. If you dont want component speakers (speakers that come with a tweeter that is seperate from the woofer and a seperate crossover for the speakers) then I would look at either Boston's FX5 or (the better, but more expensive) NX 57. You might also want to look at JL Audio's TR line of speakers and component sets. For the rear speakers I would look again look at Boston's FX5 or NX 57 speakers. If you want some more power if you buy the NX57 speakers and the component sets (not the lower priced speakers) then look at an external amp like the Alpine MRP-F240 or the Rockford Fosgate Punch 301X. These amps will power your speakers much more easily then your head-unit would and makes them sound better.

For small subs that sound good I would look at JL's W3v2 10" subs or there W0 10" subs. Either of these will be good for sound quality and dont cost too much. the W0 10" sub is around $129.00 I think and the W3v2 is around $179.00 or so. If you buy two of the W3v2 subs the get them in 4 ohm dvc, if you buy only one then get it in 2 ohm dvc. An amp for one W3v2 would be the Rockford Fosgate Punch P301 which does 300 watts RMS when bridged into 4 ohms. For two W3v2 10" subs a Rockford Fosgate Power 551S would output 550 watts RMS in 4 ohms bridged. Now if you buy one of the W0 10" subs then I would get something like the US Acoustics USB-600D amp which would give that sub 200 watts RMS in 4 ohms. For two of these subs I would get a Rockford Fosgate Punch 301M which would give your subs 150 watts each in 2 ohms. If you have any questions about how to wire your subs or anything like that lemme know. posted_image Also JL audio and Boston acouistcs do not allow anyone to sell their products online. If you do see a site that sells them and you buy them then you may be getting a bad product and you will not get a warranty from JL. AVOID ebay at all costs. same thing happens when you buy from there. Also buy some good wire for your amps and speakers from someone like Stinger or Streetwire.

Yea man, i've had quite alot of car audio come and go, and one brand that has still left and impression on me is JL. I dont think i'll ever buy them, cuz I cant see paying that much for subs, but those W0's are an amazing value. The 10" subs, usually run around $99 plus tax. Since you only want 2, you can get those puppies, and a little, 100-200 dollar amp from circuit city, and they should sound pretty nice man.

Ok... I know Sony sucks with Car Audio.  Well form wht i am hearing.  However I am going ot be putting this sytem into a Reg Cab Truck and dont think I need THAT great of a system casue it wont be turned that high most of the time.  I am looking for subs and am amp and i cant seem to figure out what subs can go with wht amp and all the Ohms and Wats rules.  For some reason I jsut cant seem to get a straight answer abotu those anywhere so i cant decifer it.  So.... i cna go to Circuit City and get  https://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-8871&qp=0&oid=71811  Im not looking for Competition bass... jsut a little addition to my current system.  Is this anyway decent?

Also... does anyone know if Circuit City does installs?  I dont have the time to run all the wires needed (or know how as of today) to do so.  Can they install it?  But with the install i dont want them to install the subs... jsut run the amp... and run the speaker wire to where i want the subs to go.  I still need to build my boxes so can they jsut run the wires and then leave me waht i need to run into the sub istelf?  Anyone know?

I'd find a shop who only does car audio video kind of stuff for an install.

dont go to circuit city unless you dont have anywhere else to go. A car audio only shop will know how to do a better job and probobly transfer your equipment to your next vehicle for free. I would really just buy a JL audio W0 12" or 10" sub in a sealed enclosure and a Rockford Fosgate Pucnh 201S amp(fi you can find it still). Also look at a US Acoustics USB-600 or Alpine MRP-220. Crutchfield has pretty good prices on these amps. As for the sub you will have to find a local dealer or find one near you, but its well worth it because these subs sound great(way better then that sony package) without making you feel like you are going to end up on your windshield. SERIOUSLY stay away from brands like sony for caraudio at all costs. Sony's subs blow.

Ok... there are a few Car Audio shops in town... my problem is i cant really spend $500 on a system.  Is there anyway you can give me a round about price total on two 10" woofers and the amp.  I am assuming that is ALL that i will need to run my system (besides wires and such).  Right?  Can someone give me a rough estimate?  Thanks for all the help so far!
