hi i'm a newb in here once again getting help from u gus ^_^
so yeah, i had a dhd 200x200 2 channel amp hooked up to (2) 10" sony xplod subs.
it works pretty bad ass. i'm not sure wut type of amp kit , or anything i just know it works bad ass
well, i currently bought a 1000 watt sony amp, 2 channel ( XM - 2165GTX )
i tried installing it my self, what i did was just took all the wires off of the DHD amp
and swapped it to the sony xplod one.
oh yeah my head unit is a JVC 2004 model, i just got that as well. OH yeah its an acura legend 94 , 4 door, the stock 6 disc cd changer is broken and isn't hooked up to the head unit
also i just had the headunit replaced with the stock acura head unit a day before i bought i the sony amp
any ways, wen i turned up the music it was fine and loud, then i put it up even higher then it went low
i went in teh trunk to see if the subs were kicking they were, really hard like it should but there wasn't a thud thud that i was looking for it was kick but i'm not getting the bass it was suppose to be.
so i swapped it back to the dhd amp, and bumped it. it worked. it had that loud bass sound like it was suppose to.
so i swapped it back to the sony xplod and tried it again. there wasn't any loud bass. i mean it kicks but its worse than the DHD.
i have a couple of questions:
1. COuld it be that i need to adjust the lil knobs on the amp?
2. DO i need a better speaker guage wire?
3. OR should i return the sony amp and get a different one ? maybe the amp is already messed up? ( i bought it from good guys for $200 + 3 year warranty )
4. OR what do i do now?
IF u can help me it'd be so grrrreeeattt. I would really appreciate it.
I don't want to take it to them and ask them to install it, cuz i have to pay labor, and buy stuff from them that is needed.
couldn't i just buy stuff off of ebay that i need and install it mah self?
plz help me thank u so much
i just want to install it so that it can make a loud bass noise. becuz my 400 watt DHD amp wasn't enough power, so i bought this 1000 watt sony amp hoping it would make more noise pushing the subs to its fullest. but yeah
i dont really know ohms andrms and stuff, i just know basic things .like connecting this, connecting that, turning this, turning that and etc... so yeah help me out if u could
Your Sony amp is rated at 165 watts per channel. Your sub should be OK with this amp, and the amp should be OK with your existing wiring. Yes, you need to "turn those little knobs" and set up the amp properly. Do a search in these forums for "setting amplifier gain" and learn how to do this. Cheers.
first of all, sony's quality has declined over the years unfortunately. i would have bought a different amp from the get-go. yes you need to turn the gains/ eq's and bass boost, etc. on your amp. if you have a pair of 12" subs set the x-over at 60hz to start, the bass eq all the way to peak, and the gain to 1/2 way to start. balance the gain of your head unit with your amp until it clips the speakers and distorts. remember you want to make all of your adjustments from processors/ amplifiers before your head unit, as it is always the weakest link in any stereo, wether you have a dxz935 or a cheap pyramid, thats the rule. good luck.

its 800 watt max peak
and yeah thanx i really appreicate ur advice and stuff thanx again
Your sub's manual should tell you what kind of box types your subs like. I would go with a ported box. They play pretty loud and have a better frequency response then bandpass boxes (bandpass boxes play loud at a certain range of frequencys, ported boxes do also but they play loud at a wider range of frequencies). They also make your subs power handlind decrease, but you shouldnt have to worry about this too much. The other reason I wouldnt reccomend the bandpass box is because it probobly isnt specifically tuned for your subs(your manual should list a tuning frequency in the box building part because below this frequency your subwoofer's frequency response drops off. So... are these boxes both made for your certain brand of subs or are they from completely different ones. If so then you should build a new box(or just use the sealed one you have if its got a volume listing close to what your subs like, this should be in the manual also), and some subs dont like ported or bandpass boxes either SO make sure to check the manual.
yeah, the boxes i have are just standard. i jsut bought it cuz they fit my subs
but yeah i'm still having problems with my 1000 watt sony amp.. what i'm i to do?
