I need help for fusing my system:
Do I need to fuse my 1/0 awg power wire BEFORE I get to my Fuse distribution block? (Here each component is individualy fused)
I will be doing my big 3 with 1/0 awg as well. I have heard that I need to fuse the alt->Pos Battery connection. I have heard to fuse it at the alternator rating, at the "ampacity" of the wire, no fuse at all?!?! can somebody please advise? thanks!

The fuse is designed to protect the vehicle and it's contents from damage (fire)caused by a short circuit in the power line. It's size is determined by the combined value of the fuses in the amplifiers to be used. It is ok to have a fuse (or breaker) that is larger than this combined value but should not drastically exceed it. The fuse goes ideally no more than 18" from the battery on the power line running to the amplifiers. There is no need to fuse between the alternator and the battery. The only reason that you would used a fused distribution block is if the amplifiers do not have fuses built into them, do your amps have built in fuses? With the questions that you have asked, I think it would be prudent to list as much information for us as possible, this means vehicle type, year, equipment etc. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Rob, Here is waht my final setup will be: PG Limited Edition Octane Amp<<Basically this consists of (2) ti400.2's with a 1F cap and Bass cube built into one casis. (Subs and fronts) PG ti400.2 (Rears) APC 350w Power Inverter (powering Xbox console, and possibly camera or laptop) (2) JL 12w6v2's 98 Accord Coupe 2.3L Vtec, I will upgrade the alt and probably use one yellow top battery. let me know if you need more info! thanks for your help so far. you need a fuse within 18" of the battery on your main line to your distro block, you do not need a fuse on your line between the alt. and the battery. everything else looks like its in running order.

yeah put a fuse in between the alternator and the battery. who the hell told you that one? btw nice schematic brotha.

I read it here. So I should NOT fuse betweem the alt and battery? Perhaps only for smaller guage wire? I think the guy who wrote that tutorial used 4 awg... "6) Run the wire either through your fuse box if applicable or through a fuse. The fuse should be sized to match the max ampacity of your wire, not the output capability of your alternator. As you can see I just went through the fuse box, so my upgrade is probably not making as much of a difference as it could if it were fused externally, but my alternator is capable of withstanding the draws anyway so I'm not particularly worried about it. If I ever begin to see a problem w/ current draws, I will probably fuse the wire externally with a 300A or so fuse..." THANKS FOR HELPING!!!!! ------------- PG Limited Edition Octane Aplifier

if that person plans to run a 300Amp fuse on 4ga wire he is crazy.
