hey,i just put in my he2 and 401s amp in my 83 cutlass. When im idling with my headlights an fan on with music, my lights slightly dim and my batter guage drops.. when i turn off my headlights or fan, the battery guage goes back up. When the battery is low, the alternator belt squeeks due to the load. Do i need a capacitor, new battery, or a larger amperage alternator (the alt. i have now is a month old)

an eighty three olds eh? I doubt that things OEM alternator is putting out much power at all. Do you know how many amps its rated for? Probably around 50-60, like in my old car. I used to have the same problem. The only solution for me was a bigger alternator. It came out to around 150 for me. Maybe you might be able to fix ur problem some other way though. good luck.

i would suggest a larger alt. due to the fact that a new battery, or a cap will just add more stress to the current alt.

although your current alt is only a month old, the only real solution to this situation is a higher amp alt. a capacitor is more of a band-aid, it patches the problem without fixing it. some might say ass a second battery, but as I understand, the only thing that is good for is running your stereo with your car off. if you do a search on this site for alternators, i know bberman1 has posted many times a few good places to look.

caps are cool , but a ho alt is the ticket for you my freind. I'd get a 200 amp alt. and then put a cap on it to give a kick. check out some web sites or a local shop. i run a one wire ac/delco alt that was built at a local shop and installed for 225.00. i could install it my self but hey if they will do it let them. good luck with your project.

Stinger makes excellent alternators. If you do buy an alternator it is reccomended that you buy a deep cycle battery also. https://stingerelectronics.com/web/homepage_industrial.asp

haha, u think thats bad 94bonny? My last car was a 1975 Dodge Dart. I had 2 12" type r's in there. haha, that car was ghetto. It had like 4 different shades of yellow, the floor was rusted out, and the seats were practically gone, my doors swung open, and it was loud as hell. But, i bumped in there like crazy! lol.
