I have a 94 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Model. I am putting a cd player in. Well the speaker wires where wraped in a plastic jacked with foil around them inside the jacket. Well there is a bare silver wire that was soldered to the plug itself. Can some one tell me what it does and what to do with it? Thanks for any help.

can you see where this wire goes to, it could be a back up ground that goes to the chasis.

You have an amplified system in the Exploder, the two factory plugs should be totally different, one long and slender, the other is almost square. Otherwise the two plugs would look very similar. Do not cut the wires, buy yourself the proper wiring adaptor. Repost what the harnesses look like and have a look at www.installdr.com to see if your harness is listed there.

What do I do if I have already cut it? What is the silver wire a ground and does it need to be hooked up for the speakers to work cause I can't get them to work on the new deck. Thanks for the help

The wires you cut into are not speaker wires, the bare wire is in fact a negative signal wire, not a ground. The speaker wires will be found at the hidden amplifer behind the passenger side rear seat, hidden behind the panel.

So what do I do? What are all the wires I cut?

They are factory pre amp wires, much like the rca wires from your new cd player. You need to either repair these wires if you can and buy the proper harness, or a better idea is to ignore those wires and do one of two things.

(1) rewire all speakers directly to the new cd player

(2) run new speaker lines from the new cd player to the hidden amp I mentioned above
