Hey guys i have an alpine CDE-7872, the temps over here in NJ are like 30degrees out. Anyways heres the problem i got in my car this morning and i turned the volume up alitte and then the next thing i know is the volume just keeps going up and up until its maxed out. i tried to shut it off but the buttons did work, i pulled over and turned the car off, i started it back up and the volume went back up from 0 to 40, i then took of the faceplate and then it didnt come back on. when i got back home i put it back on and it still did it again.
any help would be great. thanks alot
Ernie

I hope you have a warranty on it. I have not seen a lot of Alpine's do this since their first generation of detachable faceplates like the 7513 back in the late 80's, early 90's. It was a warranty issue then and sounds like it again. Cold weather does have an adverse effect on electronics, and will cause a whole pile of differing problems.

Naw, what Rob is saying is that you have a defective unit and hopefully the place you purchased it from will warranty it for you. Alpine is a one year warranty; that model you have is a few generations old, so probably you will be shopping for a new unit. Alpine's good stuff; but sometimes it just goes that way. Sorry!

i had an old alpine that when i turned it up it went up, when i turned it down, it went up...the rotary nob was picky because of being able to press it to get to the functions.  i guess it was wearing out...i dicked with the face ( it was non-detach) and never did it again. you might try getting a new face for it, assuming you have a rotary style volume..if not, then its time to go shopping for a new one, or the shop if you like this deck...just my two bits...
