okay i have a 99 lex rx300, my alpine 9813 is installed in the overhead sunglass console...2 problems now...bass goes up and the skips at high volumes...now i guess sound deadening the front roof will help the skipping right, they also said they would fill as much air space as they can with some foam which should stop it...another thing...bass goes up and the actual faceplate starts shaking like its gunna blow off, i know this cant be good for the deck...they said the dynamat in the roof should stop it but that will stop the whole deck from moving..not the faceplate right...does anyone have any suggestions or ideas how i could reduce the shaking of the face?? so it doesnt blow off one day when i get brave and turn my system up..thx

Turn down the bass, for one simple suggestion... Actually, it sounds like that is not the best mounting location for the deck. Probably not much vibration dampening up there like there would be in the dash (since the dash is designed to absorb vibrations to help protect the factory electronics.) Sorry, I have no real suggestions for you.

I would not have mounted the deck there, it is one of the first places that a shockwave from a sub comes to from the back of the vehicle, there are no seats or heads in the way to reflect or absorb the shockwave. A much more solid mount may help, as well as a laser sled that resonates at a much mower frequency than the Alpine (another shameless plug for a 19hz laser sled made by Eclipse). An Eclipse also has no detach faceplate, how about that, solved problem number 2. While I don't expect you to run out and buy this type of cd player, it sounds like you have a monster sub system that is the root cause of the problem, in this case I would remount the cd player in the dash and see what happens.

ok well lets try this again since no one made any suggestions, one...1) turn down the bass...whats the point of a system with no bass, 2) i'm not buying a new deck when i have a really good one 3) it was mounuted in the overhead because the dash proved to have very many difficulties...like they dont make a harness, it would take alot more work because of the way its built...so lets just say..its not being re mounted and lets see if anyone can help with my current situation...i'm sure theres gotta be some creative people out here who can think of some ideas to help reduce the faceplate from shaking

The only suggestion that makes any sense is to move the deck. It apparently will not work properly in its present location, so unless you are willing to cut your SPL or to simply live with a shaking faceplate and no CD, you'll have to move it. Try in your glovebox or under the seat. Or use scotch tape on the faceplate to keep it from shaking and listen to the radio.

I agree with Dyohn, but if this is not an option for whatever reasons, you have to determine what is causing the problems. Is it the laser sled resonating? if this is the case then you have no choice but to move the deck or replace the deck. If it is the shockwave of the subs interfering with the transport then you must make some kind of case to encapsulate the cd player to prevent the shockwave from interfering with the operation of the laser mechanism. This of course keeps you from seeing the cd player. You have mounted the cd player in one of the worst possible spots for vibration and shockwaves from subs. You need to determine if it more of a problem to rewire it to a better location or put up with the problems associated to where you decided to mount it. What vehicle is this in?

its a 99 lexus rx300....i've put up pictures so go here https://members.cardomain.com/smokedawgsk to get a better idea of what it all looks like..the skipping isnt that bad until i really turn it up so i'm sure the deadener will stop the minor movement in the deck along with the foam...the only problem is the actual faceplate u know...anyways any suggestions are more than welcome

Lexus cars are few and far between here in truck country, but now I see the need for overhead and the source of the problems. it looks like you have a really nice system there. Take the cd player out of the enclosure and see how it performs, watch the interior of the enclosure while the stereo is being played at the same level that makes it skip, this may show you any problem areas in the enclosure. To me it sounds like a laser sled issue, which may not be solved with an Alpine cd player. Try the deadening approach and a baskstrap on the cd player itself (may be hard to do but try). Cut a cardboard box down so that it fits across and around the faceplate as a test to see if it keeps the shockwave from hitting the cd player.

Ok, I have a suggestion that might work, fill the inside of the space around deck, with foam and cardboard. this might resolve some of the the vibration issues. if not try to come up with a type of back lashing for the unit...hope this helps a little

For us in BC any SUV is classed as a car, not a truck, even a big Excursion or Expedition is classed as a station wagon here. be that as it may, it would stand out here like a sore thumb in an area that is primarily relies on logging and fishing and air force base. Nice ride but I'll take my lifted long box crewcab diesel F350 anyday over any SUV.
