I have a customer come in with a 2001 jeep grand cherokee yesterday and wanted me to install a cheap legacy cd player in it. not a problem, quick $40.00.  Well I got it in and let him go he can back about 10 minutes later and said it doesn't get good reception, so I took it around the block and he was right, some stations had really bad static I check all conections and they were fine, original radio was also fine so I think it was the cheap legacy radio. What do you guys think?  thanks

Does this vehicle use an amplified antenna? If so it is probably no longer being powered.  Otherwise it is possibly just a crappy receiver in the new HU.

That was the first thing I check for and it does have a powered antenna, but it is hooked up.posted_image

The topic should read "Cheap radio=junk". Just in case it is not the radio there should be an antenna break in the glove box or passenger kick panel, you should check to see if the antenna came loose there.
