Thinking of replacing 4.5" component midrange door speakers in '92 Lexus LS400. I'm keeping the 20x4 watt Nakamichi head unit. What's your opinion of Pioneer 4" component speakers (150watt) TS-C1002 or maybe Nakamichi 4.5" 2 way speakers (20watt /40 watt max) SP-C452.  The present system also has a 1" tweeter on the front doors.

What are you trying to achieve? An SPL or Sound Quality system. I don't reccomend pioneer and havn't had any experience with nakamichi. Good speaker brands are MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, JL Audio, and Infinity. These are just some of the best. If you like how a speaker sounds buy it, but dont buy a speaker based on how it looks or what it says on paper.

Personally, I have never heard Pioneer speakers that sound right.  But that's just my ears.  Nak components are very musical and neutral, so if you like flat frequency response they might be a good choice.  They are a bit pricey.   Listen to them before you buy.  Quarts and Infinity tend to be much brighter.  Remember that just because you have Nakamichi electronics in the car, there is no reason to use speakers from the same company...

Appreciate the replys re speakers. I think the Nak speakers may be my best bet if I replace the stock speakers (Pioneer). Same size, wattage and musical/neutral sound. Will try to listen before I buy. The leather interior off my '92 LS400 is very bright so a neutral speaker might sound better. Four Door.
