I just bought 2 Audiobahn AW-1205 subs and a Directed 1100D from a friend who upgraded his system. Here's the Problem I don't have much experience with DVC subs, and I need some help wiring them. I would like to get as much power out of them as I possibly can. Can any body help me?
The maximum power you can really get is what your amp is able to pump out to the speakers. If the speakers are of an impedance not matching the amp, that will also not be peak performance. To reach the max, check the specs of your amp. If the amp says you got to have a 2 ohm speaker (2 ohms being just an example) for maximum output, then use a 2 ohm speaker (if using a dual coil then you can use a dual 4 ohm in parallel).
Wiring them is pretty much like wiring a light bulb, with a slight difference in that you have a + and a -. Don't let the + and - confuse you with DC current, however this is for the phase of the speaker. Most amps also give out a DC current to the speaker in addition to the amplified audio signal, however if you keep your + and - right and run wires from the amp to the sub, you're all set. Also your amp can be configured to be directly connected or bridged. Depending on if your amp is a mono or stereo, you can hook it up to a single sub by bridging it, meaning you use the outupt of each channel to push the output into a single sub. I can't think of anything else to say at this point. If you need more details, please ask and I will try to explain more or there may be other experts who may be willing to share their knowledge too.
You amp is designed to procuce it's maximum ouput at a load of 1 ohm mono. Your amp has 2 sets of outputs for ease of connection only. These 2 outputs are actually wired together internally.
Your subs are dual voice coil, probably 2 ohms each. This means that you have a very limited wiring method. This is what I would suggest for you.
Wiring Option #2

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
You could also achieve the same 2 Ohm result by putting the two speakers in series with the coils from each speaker in parallel. I don't have a means to draw a schematic but maybe i can draw it on paper and scan it and put it up if you're interested. However I would like to know which way would be more powerful adn what is the difference in the two layouts since both use all 4 coils and have a net result of 2 ohms.
