hooking up subwoofers to rear speaker output on pioneer 6600--does it really work well?

I have tried using the rear spk leads on the pioneer 4300 to run a sub. It wasn't bad but not great. The main advice I have is use a single dual voice coil sub. Probally an efficent 10'. Also use a ported box because it will increase your system efficency if its built right.

no. 16 or less watts rms isn't going to give you any bass. You will be much happier with an external amp. maybe you cuold run 6" midranges but not some 10" subs, not even in a ported enclosure.
