i bought a whole system amp, subs, and a capacitor and the capacitor has a digital readout. i have power running trough it and the amp was powering just fine but it had this high pitched squeal and the digital readout has never gone on. do i need to charge it before using it? is there supposed to be a remote turn on led to the capacitor? it is the the Streetwire 1.0 20 VDC and i have the mtx 81000d amp running off of it. thanks a bunch

I should be a connection for a remote turn on. The cap should charge when you connect it to the battery,

Yea, you need to charge the cap before using it, but I have never had a cap that needed a remote wire. They usually turn on with the amplifier that is being used with it, or just by having a power and ground. Did your cap come with a resistor to charge it with? Otherwise, just let it charge with the battery, but don't  use your amp in the meanwhile.

Most capacitors come with a charging card. Charging only takes seconds. I highly doubt that you need a turn on lead for your cap's digital display. It should just light up with the voltage when it detects your amp drawing voltage.

Almost but no banana, most caps with a digital readout do have a remote on lead to toggle the display on and off, even though led's draw a miniscule amount of power, they can still drain a battery if left on. I have never seen a digital cap without one, it doesn't mean that they do not exist though. Charging card or resistor is a must.
