I just installed a used Eclipse 5303 head unit today... It is connected to an audiobahn A4601Q amplifier.... After i connected everything, i powered it up.... It scanned hte channels and made presets, but made NO sound. I also pressed the open button, to acess the CD tray, but it wouldn't open. The only sound I got from teh speakers was the sound of the beeping of the head unit.... Is the deck dead? How can I troubleshoot?

Sounds like it's looking for the ESN code CD. Contact the seller and ask for the correct CD. If it's a legitimate sale, the CD should be provided. Otherwise it may be a stolen unit and is worthless without the correct CD.

Dyohn, it wont be the ESN like you think. If ESN is activated the unit is totally inoperable except for allowing the cd to load. The display will read SEC or if it was showing SEC and the wrong cd was inserted 5 times, it will read CALL800. If the unit is scanning am/fm frequencies etc., the unit itself works fine. The beep sound does indeed come from the cd player (if my memory is correct) and is not through the speakers. Did the amplifier turn on with the cd player? ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

The amplifier turned on, and the beeping DID come through the speakers ( I know some units have the beeping on the head itself, like my Sony CDX-MP70)

Was the antenna plugged in? Check on the side of the cd player for a little switch. I can't remember for sure if that unit had one or not.

The antenna was plugged in... I'll check for a switch
I also just bought a new metra harness for the stereo too, before i cut the other one down to a mere nothing....
It has the Orange and white positive dimmer, and the orange illumination switch.... The other harness i had only had the dimmer wire, and not illumination wire the eclipse says illumination for the orange and white wire....which do i solder to? The illumination one on the metra harness, or the dimmer one on the harness? ------------- ~WAYLAND

So here's the update. There's no little switch, but the motor works.... I manually cranked the display down, and when i powered it up, it closed on its own....so it isn't the motor. How can I check for a faulty switch?
I never got to check for sound.....

Is it possible for a normal person, like myself, to bench test a headunit? It would be much more convienient than going back and forth from the office, to the car, to see if my repairs work.... What kind of special equipment is needed? ------------- ~WAYLAND
