I am troubleshooting a Kenwood KAC-742 amp with a ground problem.  I read continuity from the load side of the fuse to ground, but only when I have the leads of the DMM with black on the fuse and red on the ground, switch them and no continuity.  Obviously, there should not be any continuity. 

Anyone have any ideas what may be grounded out in the amp?  Is it cost-effective to have it repaired?  Since the meter only reads continuity in one direction, is this a clue as to what is shorted? 

Any help would be absolutely great.

Continuity with one meter polarity and open with the other is the classic reading from a diode.  Could be you have a defective power supply circuit insode the amp and there is a diode shorted to ground... but without the schematic (and espacially over the 'net) it's impossible to tell for sure.  If it is just a diode, a shop should be able to repair the amp with an hour's worth of labor or so.
