Hello Everyone. I'm very interested in learning how to fabricate structures (dash boards, enclosures, door panels, consoles, fenders, hoods, etc) more or less from scratch (out of woods, fiberglasses, sheet metal, etc). I was a certified installer at a major chain in college, and i have since graduated college with a mechanical engineering degree and work at NASA, so i feel that its something that (with time) i can accomplish, however i'm currently ignorant in how to get started. What would you recommend? What sources are available for self study, practice, etc? Do you think those with the talent would be interested in teaching (if you live in houston and are interested, please let me know)? I want to get an old corvette to work on, but i dont want my ideas to be limited by the small amount of after market and currently available parts. Thanks for your thoughts and time!
Here is a link to how a famous show car was put together,
Alpine's Civic Si. It is kind of short and to the point, but it will give you an idea of how to get forms made out of fiberglass. Also check the fiberglass forum for other ideas.
