check your gains on the amp, and your connection from the headunit to the amp. ------------- Squirrel

The lightning audio amp should have 2 led's oon it, one green led for power on and a red led for protection, which one is lit up?

If the red protection light is lit, then yes that's the problem. Refer to your manual fo rwhat to do. I'll try and do some research online to see what I can find too. What's the model of the Lightening Audio amp? ------------- Squirrel

yep, your amp is in protection. Try unhooking all the speaker wires and then turn the vehicle back on and see if it lights up green or red. If its green than check the sub and see if its unhooked inside the box and the wires are touching each other or the basket. If they arent then check the back of the box and make sure the wires arent touching. If the amp lights up red than you probally have a problem with the amp and need to get it fixed/returned/exchanged or whatever. Before you pull it out though, if it lights up red you can disconnect the remote line and take a wire and jump from the remote to the constant 12 and see if it lights up green. If it does than you have a problem with the remote line. I have seen remote lines that are pinched or had a screw put through them turn an amp on and send it into protection before. I hope this help some

sounds like a bad amp to me if the speakers are disconnected and you bypassed the remote wire and it is still in protection.

Did you buy it new? Take it back. If you bought it used, it may be repairable. You'll have to find a service center in your area who can look at it.

Disconnect all speaker wires and the rca cable, if the red protection led is on, the amp is faulty. If the protection led goes on with the rca plugged in, check the rca cable to see if it is grounding out.
