I'm not going for any crazy system or anything, but I was just curious if this deck was any good. I don't plan on buying an amp, so I was wondering if this head unit was good enough for powering 50 watt RMS speakers, and if I can attach my Alpine 6 CD changer to it?

I'm not familiar with the 9823, it probably got replaced with the 9825. The 9825 is ok, it will power your speakers decently but I would consider getting an amp for better results. Something like the eclipse EA3422 should work okay, assuming that your speakers impedance is 4 Ohms. I'm also assuming that you are running for speakers, if not the EA2212 will do you right, it's 2 channel while the EA3422 is 4 channel. They shouldn't set you back to much and Eclipse makes excellent amps, as for the changer if it  is AI net you should be ok, I might be wrong here so you might want to give alpine a call with the changer's model number to make sure.

yes, the 9823 is a great cd player, it will power you speakers just fine.  But for the extra $40 you should definately go for the 9825, the 9825 has 3 sets of rca out puts, where as the 9823 only has 2 sets, which will limit your potential to upgrade your system in the future.
