I personally feel 15" are overrated just cause of the size and power. I have seen 10's and even 12's hit harder and sound cleaner then some 15's. Depends on what your putting it into and what you want.. I would go with the 12's.

what is your definition of sound better, the L5 15 would probably be 'louder' while your L7 12" would sound better imo...

You would probably get boomier bass out of the 15 than the 12 but get better sq from the 12. It all depends on what you are going after, I personally prefer 12's but that's just me. I find that 12's give me a happy medium between "boom" and sq, again it depends on what you're after.

which one would be louder?  If you were to run the same power to both, I'd say go with the 12".  You'd get better sound out of it and the power handling would be the same, so they would be very close in regards to volume.

I would also go with the 12". 15"s I found are kinda sloppy sounding and can get a little behind sometimes.

I don't know why people think 10" subs have better SQ than a 15" sub. People need to quit believing every thing that someone else says. A 10" sub isn't any tighter, or responds any quicker than a 15" sub.

The only reason people perceive a 10" as being tighter is because it handles the upper midbass frequencys better. Your subs really should only be playing 60 hz and lower, they don't need to be playing up to 125+ hz like a lot of people have. Having the sub playing so high will cause localization of the sub, meaning you can tell exactly where the sound is coming from.

Anyway... the main reason in moving to a 15" sub besides more displacement, is that they play relatively flat all the way down to 20 hz. The frequency response of 10" and 12" are going to start to roll off a lot sooner than a 15" due to it's ability to move more air when nearing sub-sonic frequencys.

go with the 12 but use a ported or vented box as detailed in the kicker manuals. The size of the box will be about as big as a sealed 15 box, but it will sound twice as loud.
