Looking for some 6.5" speakers to replace factory speakers in 98 GMC Sierra ext cab. I am looking at Infinity Kappa 63.5i 3-way and also Audiobahn AS65Q 3-way. I am also looking for some peoples opinions, which do you recommend? Is there another brand you would recommend over either of these two? ------------- bcuz

I really like the infinitys and have many satisfied clients with infiniity speakers. Now with that being said I dont have any experence with those particular audiobahn speakers so I cant really tell you which is better. I can just tell you that the infinity are good.

Another question, since my truck has separate tweeters in the door panel, would it be advantageous to by a component system, such as Infinity's? Would the factory head unit drive (have enough power) a component system good enough? Obviously I am not experienced with component systems. Do I just run by speaker outputs from the factory unit through the crossover, then to the speakers? Thanks for the help on such a novice topic. ------------- bcuz

yes, components are an option for you, and if you do go that way you you could just run your speaker wire to the x-over unit. How beneficial components would be for you would depend on the truck itself. If your 6.5 enclosures are pointed at you in the truck then you could probably just get away with standard 6.5's and save yourself some money. If not, then components are something to consider

The Infinity Kappa Components sound just superb. They are very versitlie for sound range and sound great boxed up. Audiobaun is definitly a great brand also, but I would recomend a component system. You will never turn back or be disappointed with them.

A component set needs an external amp if you want to get the best out of them. I definitely prefer infinity over audiobahn. A component set will sound ok with a factory system but even with an aftermarket cd player's amp they still won't sound their best. Component sets will sound better then coaxials almost all the time. They have higher power handling also and come with an external crossover. The external crossover seperates the frequencys between the drivers better then just a capacitor before the tweeter on most coaxials. This is what allows component sets to handle more power. Last answer. All you have to do different with component speakers is run a single wire from your amp or head-unit to each crossover's input then run a seperate wire from the crossover to the tweeter and woofer. Some other good brands to consider are MB quart, JL Audio, and Boston Acoustics.

That is the truth. I noticed a ten-fold difference when I hooked up my Power Acoustik 85x4 amp not only in the volume but more so in the clarity. When you under power speakers, it causes them to use only part of the voice coil (because they don't have enough power for all of it). So when you add more power, it forces the amp to use all of teh voice coil which is where your sound comes from.
