I want to get a couple of amps that will push 2-12" subs.  I was thinking about buying Punch or Phoenix Gold.  Soemthing that would push about 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode .  What is a good amp these days.

The Punch 501s should do the trick for you, or you could go one better and get a JL Audio 500/1 or a cheaper but solid amp is a JBL 600.1 (watch your gains) or a Memphis Car Audio ST500D (can be had for $249) if you go for the Memphis make sure that the subs can be wired down to 2 ohm, with the JL any load between 1.5-4 ohm will produce 500 watts rms for you courtesy of the R.I.P.S power supply. My personal choice would be the JL (it's what I'm running now) but any of the amps I listed will do the job for you.

P.S. the puch I listed will do the trick but I would go for a Class D if I were you, it's more efficient. I just listed the punch because you said that you were thinking of one, good amp though so if you're leaning that way you can't go wrong.

I am running Audiopipe 12" subs.  they hold 375 watts RMS & 750 max watts.  They are excellent speakers, just not well known yet.

look into the JBL BP600.1 it will push 600watts RMS at 1 or 2 ohms and 300 watts at 4 ohms. it is a mono amp that looks like it has 2 channels. you would just hook up one speaker per "channel' and you'd be set. put about 300 watts to each sub.
