ok, this may sound dumb but, is there any thing that can messure the amount of wattage that is going to the sub from the amp, that will actually show you on a meter of some sort.

yes a multi meter. put the meter on a/c voltage then crank on those subs with a good strong signal and take a voltage reading. ( it's easyer with a analoge meter) then take that reading and square it. then take that and divide by the ohm load off the subs.  example ( 50vac x 2 = 2500 )  ( 2500 divided by 2 ohms = 1250watts rms. good luck
