I need to tap into the speaker wires for a speaker-level connection to a sub amp. Am I correct in assuming that the wires going to the rear door speakers are ran under the front door thresholds? If not, where can I get to them with as little dismantling of the truck's interior pieces. A can someone tell me how to identify the wires (+ & -) when I find them.
thanks! Jim

Your best thing to do if you do not know schematics is take the speakers out and cut them loose from the system. From there you can test them with a 9V battery for polarity by tapping the two leads to the battery. If the speaker moves outward when you do this, the wire that is on the positive of the battery is positive. Negative if it moves inward. I know it's not what you want to hear, but this is the best way if you do not know the colors.

Thanks Metra Tech. I'm aware of the "hard" way to do this :). I'm hoping someone may have this info so I don't have to pull the door panels off my brand new vehicle. thanks Jim

I'm sorry. I did not know you knew this way. It's hard to tell experience on forums sometimes.

The wires run under the center console to the rear amp (under the front passenger seat or center console itself). I have wiring diagrams/ component locations for this car, but to big to upload. ------------- itmdtr

Thanks!! So you're not sure where the rear speaker amp is located? Does your diagram say where the rear speakers run once they leave the amp? thanks again :) Jim

Rear amp is under the center console.

Looks like the wires leave the amp, under both front seats and head into the B-pillars, then into the rear doors.

Do you know where under the console? When I pulled out the little approx. 3" high x 6" wide 'pocket' at the very front of the center console to install an XM Roady, I remember seeing a metal box with wires coming out of it, which was driectly behind the little 'pocket'. Is that the amp? Does anyone know the color of the wires leaving the amp and going to the speaerks, in so far as: left +/-, right +,- ? THANKS!!! Jim

Thanks itmdtr! Does your diagram say what color the wires are, or their polarity? By the way, is you member name short of 'Intimidator'? thanks! Jim

although i haven't done audio work on this car myself, i don't recall coming across very many toyotas that have not used its traditional wiring colours:
left rear(+) = black
left rear(-) = yellow
right rear(+) = red
right rear(-) = white
look for them to be in twisted pairs, as toyota has a tendency to do that also. you can probably find them also under the driver's and passenger's door sills leading into the b-pillar.
good luck!

F1, if you PM your email address to me I can send you the wiring diagram/ component location for that car. You need "Wordpad" or "Acrobat Reader" to look at them. jimmee is correct about the wire colors. And yes, itmdtr is short for intimidator. Jr. won today . ------------- itmdtr
