I AM IN NEED OF THE WIRING DIAGRAM FOR AMPLIFIER AND RECEIVER FOR A FACTORY UNIT FROM A 1985 NISSAN 300ZX. PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE. THANK YOU.
I've only done one of these, and I can't remember all of it, but you have quite a job ahead of you.
First, make sure you can find the mounting kit for that car....we luckily had an old one lying around, but I don't seem them in install shops anymore. Look for a part number at www.metraonline.com, www.scosche.com, or www.americaninternational.com, and see if a local shop can order the part for you.
You'll also need an adapter for the Diversity Antenna plug, Metra part 40-NI-10. You can pick that up almost anywhere. Also get the wire harness adapter for an '85-vintage Nissan.....it might be Metra 70-1761, but double check on that.
Hopefully, the papers with the mounting kit will guide you on removing the factory radio, because I forget how to do it. Also, remove the passenger seat; the factory amplifier is under there.
I think you can use the larger plug from the Nissan harness to get constant, switched, ground, and the front speakers....all at the amp.....extend each wire to run up to the radio.
The rear speaker wires are at the amp too, but the plug doesn't fit. You'll have to splice (and hopefully solder) the wires, without hacking off the original plug. (Just leave the original plug sitting there, unplugged from the amp.) You can use a 9-volt battery to figure out which wire does which speaker. Or, temporarily remove the rear speakers, write down the wire colors you see there, and find the same wires at the amp.
I could be wrong about which wires the harness adapter will get for you, but it will get you enough that it's worth buying it. It will keep cutting and splicing to a minimum, as well as save time.
Thank you, Chris.
