Subject: amp wont shut off

hi, i went out to my car and found my battery dead. after jumping it and trying to figure out why i found that my amp will not shutoff when the car is turned off.  i was just wondering how the remote wire works.  i can unplug that and it turns off but as soon as i plug it back in the amp turns right back on.  its not a problem(well it really is)  if i drive my car everyday but as i found out if i dont for a day the battery is dead.  any advice?

You need to hook the remote wire up to either the remote turn on wire on an aftermarket deck or to an accessory wire on the back of a stock radio.

The remote wire is just a 12 volt power source but it only sends out that power when your deck turns on

When properly connected, the remote wire is actually your on/off switch for your amp.  As mentioned above, it needs to be connected to your remote turn on wire or to the accy wire of an oem deck.

check to see if your power wire on your amp is toching anything else. i had a problem with that an my power wire was touching i think the remote wire. so see if that helps u out at all. do the simple stuff first, the look at getting a switch put on it after.

yes but if the amp is still on then the power wire is touching something to keep it on

If your amp is still on then you have your remote wire connected to a constant source instead of a switched source.  There is even the possibility of a faulty amp.

If you've used the blue/white wire on your HU then you should try using a toggle switch. If this doesn't work you may have a bad amp issue.

Will the amp turn on without the remote wire being connected?   Which HU and which Amp are you using? That way I can check the specs to be sure.

No, the remote wire is the on and off switch for your amp

So it really is the ON switch. Power from that remote wire switches a relay inside the amp on, which in turn turns on the amp. If that power is cut off, the relay won't be energized and the amp won't be on.    Then, if your amp does not go off, the power to that remote-wire is never getting cut out. Check that.
