if the remote wire is not working on my HU can i connect it to anything else, like the 12v line from the ignition?

Are you referring to your amps turn on wire? If so, yes you can connect it to 12v accessory.

ya make sure you hook up a switch though to your bat + because if not it will drain your batt

does the ignition wire give a constant power?

if I were you id do the same thing I did... some people dont like it but it was alright for me.  Get a constant power wire like one going to your deck and hook up your remote wire off that with a switch by your front seat... you just have to remember to turn it off when u get outta ur car
