I'm installing a new head unit in my '97 Avalon.  The factory unit has an amplifier mounted behind the glove box.  I need some sort of adapter cable that will connect to the plug on the harness that leads to the speakers. I want to connect the speaker outputs from my new headunit directly to the speakers.   I don't want to cut the connector off, and those squeeze tap connectors aren't my favorite.  Does anybody know of a source for this connector?  Thanks for any help.

Yeah, I know I need a harness.  Which one?  I don't need the one that plugs in at the original radio; I need one that plugs in to the speaker plug at the amp.  If Metra makes the one I need, I can't seem to find it.  I seem to recall seeing  something called an 'amplifier bypass harness', but I don't remember where I found it.  Does anybody know where I can find this?

you really have 2 choices  metra makes 2 harnesses  the 70-1761 which is a standard toyota 2 plug harness u would have to get to the amp and unplug the 2 plugs going into it the extend the wires to the factory harness,     or metra has an amp integration harness which requires a radio w/ 4 pre outs  circuit city carries both of them   the circuit city part number for the regular toyota harness is 80-1761 im not sure on the amp integration number

Sorry for the delay. I had to research this one to make sure it works for you. We do have a harness for you, it is Metra part# 70-8116. It bypasses the amp behind the glove box . It has wires on it for all your speakers except the sub if your car is so equipped.

That sounds like what I need.  I tried two different harnesses already:  a standard 2-plug Toyota cable and one that fits the radio, but neither are correct.  Where can I get a 70-8116?  I can't find it online?  Thanks.

I forgot to mention...  The factory radio connector has no switched power, constant power, or dimmer when the amp is unplugged.  The speaker connector that plugs into the amp  has these.  Wil the 70-8116 you mentioned supply these signals?  Thanks!

This is a problem on this vehicle. The power runs to the amp first, then the radio. Unfortunately, our harness only has the wires for the speakers in it. You would have to hardwire the power connections at this time. I will look into having the power connections on the harness in the future but only your constant and ground are in that harness though. The accessory and illumination are in a different harness, the 14 pin green harness.

This part can be special ordered by any Circuit City or Metra dealer. There's only 97 of them out there so you probably won't find one locally.

Thanks for the help.  Before giving Circuit City too much credit, the local one says they can't order it since it's not in their system.  They also say that they have no contact number for Metra.  I'll search for other dealers, or is there one that is more helpful than most?  Thanks.

Some folks at Circuit City don't know what they can do there, sorry, but they can special order just about anything we sell. I can refer you to someone else if you tell me which city you live in. Also on the web, https://install-audio.com/

I'm in Wilmington, NC.  I called SoundTronics and they tried to order it for me.  They were told that was an invalid part number.  They called Metra and spoke to a technician who said that part didn't exist.  If you can refer me to somebody here locally, it would be great.  I appreciate your help.

Try this store, Headquist, phone# 910-799-2270. They should be able to get that for you. Just to let you know though, it is on backorder at the present moment.
