Subject: Amp and Sub Wiring Question
Date Posted: March 18, 2004 at 10:15 PM

My question is what is the best way to wire my amp and subs to get the most out of them.  I have a Pioneer GM-X962 Amp and 2 Kenwood KFC-W3005 12" subs.  The subs are 4 ohms each with a SVC.  My amp's specs

-125Wx2 (4 ohm), 190Wx2 (2 ohm), 380Wx1 (4 ohm) 250Wx2 (4 ohm), 760Wx1 (4 ohm)

Your help is greatly appreciated

What are the last (2) specs listed?

250W x 2 (4 Ohm)

760W x 1 (4 Ohm)

are these for a 14.4 voltage source?

the best way that i am seeing to hook up your subs is one sub per channel. it will give you 125 watts RMS per sub.

Sorry for another dumb question but how do I get my subs to work without bridging the amp?

im not sure the exact rms of the subs but i would guess around 350w a piece (giving the subs some credit), with that amp the best you could do is wire each sub to its own channel and give each sub 125wrms

you have a two channel amp and two subs. you will take one sub and hook up the + and  - from that sub to the  + and - to one channel on the amp, then take the other sub and hook it up the same way.

you will hook it up like the picture below for each sub to its own channel.

Thanks but what I meant was by doing the above I will be running in stereo, and to my knowledge the subs wont be very productive unless their in Mono.  So how do I run 2 subs on their own channel with a 2 channel amp and get a mono signal to them?

with the sub and amp combo you have the only way to run then in mono would be to wire them to an 8 ohm load and bridge the amp. this would give the subs about 95 watts RMS. this is why i recommended wiring each sub to its own channel. if you want to run it mono, i would suggest another amp. i would look into the JBL BP600.1.

So basically my amp is fine for one sub but sucks for 2.  What about running my subs posted_image Parallel at 2 ohms?  Will this work or will I bake my amp?

more or less. you amp is only 4 ohm stable in bridged mode. you will fry your amp if you try this. it might take a month or so, or it might be right away. i wouldn't try it if i were you.

about frying the amp, it may take a longer time than that, it took me almost a year to burn up my 4 channel sony with two R10's

So I will need to run each sub on its own channel, then how does it bump in stereo?  Do I only plug in one channel in the RCA from then head unit?

you will still need to use both RCA inputs. you will take the L and R RCA outputs on the deck and run RCA wires to the amp and plug in the respective L and R on the amp. then you will hook up each sub to its own channel.

also, some decks have a mono sub output.. my Sony CDX-M630 has a dedicated sub out put with two mono RCA jacks.. just run rca cables to each of the inputs on your amps if you are able
