I currently have 3amps plus the one cap on my setup. I've noted some people tend to use a SPDT relay to switch on multiple amps and some dont.

I would like to ask is it needed if I have 4pcs of equipment to turn on? The headunit remote is fused for protection so can I just run it without a relay?

Furthermore, heard some debate that the cap which also has a remote may damage the amp from power surges when it recharges again once its turned back on? I dont see how the cap would give out a surge back down the remote wire to damage my amps would it? When is the right time to use a relay and should it also be fused for protection (if so just the 12v feed or the common line?).

Any info appreicated.

Jim

Good for you, most people do not fuse the remote on wire at the head unit. Make sure the fuse is not too large, 1 - 2 amps max. If this fuse blows then you will need to wire the relay in. If the cap has a remote on wire, it is probably there to trigger a led display, I imagine that your cap has this. If this is the fact, then no a cap cannot surge back down the remote on wire.

it's never to early to use a relay...i use them any time i'm remoting on more than 1 amp .... the remote out on most head units is 100-300 ma of current and very easy to overload and blow..... spring the 5 bucks and use a relay.... or pay 100.00 to repair the blown remote driver, you're call.....
