I have a Pioneer DEH-P4500MP HU. At the moment, I have my amplifier connected to a LOC that is connected to the HU's RT RR and LT RR speaker wires. It sounds great in this configuration. When I connect the RCA cables to the HU's rear RCA connectors, it seems as if I lose a lot of volume and bass. Is this normal? Should I have it repaired? ANy help would be much appreciated.

You are driving one amp using an LOC off the speaker level signal and another amp off the RCA line-level signal, and one of the levels is affected by the other one? If this is what you're saying than no, it's not normal.

No, I'm sorry, I was not clear. I am only running 1 amp to my subs. The rca cables come from my amp to the LOC which is connected to the RR speaker level outputs of my HU. It sounds great in this configuration.

The issue is when I remove the RCA cables from the LOC and attach the RCA cables to the RR RCA outputs of my HU the volume & bass is much lower. At this point, nothing is using the RR speaker level outputs.

Gotcha. The difference is only because the voltage output from your HU line level pre-amp is lower that that being produced from your LOC. All you have to do is set up your amp (set the gain) for the levels from the line outs. The line-outs should give you a much cleaner signal, by the way.

Excellent! BTW, what is the best way to verify what the gain setting is on the LOC so I can match it on my amp?

DYohn..?..might his trouble be that the rca's are the non-fading and are not turned on? just a thought had a friend that ran rca's back and did not have the NF control turned on

though i guess he is using his RR output
