I have a sony xm-2165gtx amp, powering 2 sony xplod 10" subs

they worked fine..

all of a sudden it just stopped kicking.

i checked to see if the amp is being powered.. yes it is being powered..

The head unit is a JVC . not sure about the model.. gotta check it later.

but then wen i would turn on my head unit.. the subs would rattle out distortion..

(i put a sound converter to increase its bass or distortion)

that was never a problem..

any ways.. so then wen i turn on the head unit.. it would kick bass. then play music.. but the subs have no sound coming out.

what is the problem????

I would check all your RCA's and also check all the voltages on everything and maybe ur subs are dead who knows, im not the best at this stuff so maybe wait for some more opinions

have you check that the subs are still in working order, ie not blown and still reading the appropiate ohm load when checked with a dmm.? Also make sure the connections inside the box have not been broken

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I completely agree that people need to stop calling brands sh*t and so on, its one thing to try and convince another person to buy something different when they are out to buy, but another completely different issue to ripp on something that some body owns. its like teasing a poor kid because he cant get something, just because you arent satisified until you have the best others are happy with what they have and can afford, that is a true happiness in car audio. so people in the forum please stop ripping on what people own and trying to make them buy something different when all they want is help to fix what they have, or to make what they have work for them.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmm check and double check the connections. including the ones going from your amp to your speakers. it COULD be just a single strand of wire touching another wire. but i'm not totally sure on that one. the speaker wire on the subs may have come off. check those. just a word of thought :P thats my two cents, other then that i dunno.

Do you have an override LED on the amp ?
Try to disconnect both subs and try to put another one or a speaker to see if you get any output from the amp.
Check the sub's input or wires from the input to the membrane.. only a suggestion.

Back to the original question:  What's the problem?  Sounds to me like you have blown either the amp or the subs.  I suggest taking the system in to a shop for testing.

And speaking of ragging on Sony (or any other) equipment, I have to say it is NOT about telling someone they are dumb or made a bad choice.  It is about exactly this sort of problem that Bang Bang is experiencing.  I have seen more amps, speakers and heads with names like "Sony" or "JVC" or "Pyramid" on them go bad and break down than almost any other brand out there.  So this particular problem may indeed be because it is Sony equipment.  They break easily, especially if you push them anywhere near their limits.  The real message is: if the equipment is bad and you have to replace it, don't buy this brand again.

if you have one of those y connectors with the red and white plugs on one side and a stereo jack on the other try hooking that up to the amp and see if it does anything... chances are it will make a noise when u turn it on... if everything is fine

Disconnect the subs from the amp. Take a handle little 9v battery and briefly touch it to the speaker leads, if the subs go thump and move, the subs should be OK, leading to an amp problem. I'm assuming you don't have a meter, thus the 9v battery. The amp is still on, correct? Run a new rca cable from the cd player to the amp, in case the original rca cable is grounding out. Plug subs back into the amp (provided the passed the test above). If you still have no sound, then you have smelly amplifier disease. It is best treated with 2 weeks of really hard work to buy a new amplifier that does not say, what was that name again? I thought I was the 99999 person, man I'm so jealous. If the subs no worky, then you have smelly subwoofer disease, take 2-4 weeks of good hard work, time to research and level set the gain properly, do not use bass control on the cd player or a bass boost circuit on the amp. In 2 - 4 weeks your system should be healthy again with new subs.

Some times people overlook simple things too.

If it was working but now there is no sound at all, its probly a input connection on the amp or sub.

If it is working but really quiet, Try cleaning the battery post terminal and the connector on the post.  I have to do it about once a month through the winter months other wise I experience a loss of power / volume drop in subs

I think it could be a wire touching another. Or you got one postive or negative hook up to the wrong terminal, switch'em, it should work if thats whats wrong. Make sure you check inside the box.

Hope it works.

well i dont think he has em hooked up wrong b/c he clearly stated that they just stoped working.. possibly the wires touching somewhere making a big loop happend 2 me but the amp went into protection b4 any damage... make sure that none of ur wires are stripped more than they need to be....if they are tape one or both wit some electrical tape to cover the uncovered ends..

wow so many answers!  my guess is the voice coils are toast. get a multimeter and check to see that they are still reading 4 ohms. (or what ever resistance they are or set up to be) if they are not, hope you got a service plan. remember, damaged subs can change impedence which could possibly damage your amp.

what do you think would happen if you hooked that wire to that wire :D

OK found out the problem. THe HOt wire was loose. so it would go on and off.

Acutally about  5 inches before the hot wire is connected to the amp... THERE is this cut... where i put black tape aroudn it..

becuz i cut it.. then put it back together.. it was loose ... so now i'm gonna cut it off. then put a new gold terminal.!

fo sho fo sho.! fo sho!
