I purchased the Sony XM-2200GTX 1200watts 2 channel amp. (hold the sony comments ~ : )
It's max power out @ 2ohms is: 600 watts x 2
I have 2 Kicker S10L7's SoloBarics dual 4omhs subs.
Each sub has a 600 watts RMS rating w/a 1200 Watts max output. (I have a sealed enclosure .66cf)
Can some1 advise me on the necessary wiring set-up of the subs
to get the amp's 600 watts x 2 into 2 ohms juice - ?
I know if I do a parallel wire set-up I can get a 2 omh impedence out of each sub but
when the amp specs say 600x2 @ 2omhs, is that meant per channel or total - ?
Do I have to bridge the connection - or just a standard connection if I have the subs paralel wired.
I'd hate to blow any of this stuff up -

600 X 2 @ 2ohms means it is a stereo amp and each channel is capable of producing 600 watts into a 2-ohm load. So, if you wire each sub for 2 ohms (voice coils in parallel) each one should be connected to one channel of the amp, and assuming the ratings are correct, the amp is then capable of sending each sub 600 watts..
Hold the Sony comments except for the matching of your equipment and possible problems. We all love to hate one line or another but we will help you make the best of what you have. You have a serious power imbalance between the subs and the amp, this usually leads to either smelly amplifer of smelly speaker disease, the latter being more prevalent. Use what you have for now, but a new sub amp is in your future. Do not turn the gains to high or a bass boost or expect smelly speaker disease very soon.
Your amps real power rating is 500w rms x1 @ 4 ohm mono or about 250w rms x2 @ 2 ohm mono. Throw the peak rating that you mentioned out the window for now, that is what the amp can produce for a moment in time. Here is how I would wire your subs to this amp for the best results.

 Ignore the cap for now, all it will do is be another item for the battery to charge and the alternator to power. Add it if and when you need it, not because it the assumed thing to add. |

There is no way possible that this amplifier will ever be able to "juice-out" 600 watts per channel like you need, that is a confirmation. Your subs are a maximum of 600 watts rms, to power them at this level you need a way bigger amp. They will work to about 50% of their abilities with the amp that you have chosen. Just because your speedometer says your car can go 150 mph does not mean that you must drive that fast, just because your subs say 600watts rms does not mean that you must give them that much power. The danger here is simple, if you drive your car and keep the tach above redline, bad things happen. When you want bass, and I assume you do, with an amp that is too small, you run it out of power, causing clipping - this clipping is reproduced as distortion in your subs = smelly speaker disease. This clipping is the same thing as running your engine above redline, eventually something is going to fail.
