I used to be a installer at a local shop.Ive been out of the loop now for a few years.I have the chance to do a install and make some $$ on the side for some close freinds. Ford F150 2003 supercrew cab.They want subs,new dorr speakers and a good headunit with amplifier.Im looking for recomendations and what info i can get for this truck. 1)Is it a double din stereo?i looked but didnt get a chance to take a real close look. 2)does any one make a prefitted box for the supercrew?i found one for $85 shipped,but who else makes one? 3)the $85 box is 1.2 ft shared and 5 inch mounting depth,any one have suggestions on 10 inch speakers,i was thinking 10w0's.should i be looking for a different brand? 4)most amps these days are 2 ohm stable right?or would i be better off getting a 8 ohm woofers and running 4 ohm? 5)whats a good size for door speakers?i know it fits 6x8 ,but whats best for sound quality 6)last but not least,whats hot in headunits these days?id like something in the $700-$800 range that puts out great sound. thanx for any help i can get with this.

1. Yes but to make a double din fit you will need to modify the dash.
2. Standard truck box will fit.
3. no recs.
4. Depends on what you are talking about, 2 (most are stable at 2 ohms per channel, 4 ohm bridged),4 (sames as 2 channel), or mono amps( depends on the manufacturer but should be stable at 2).
5. Just do the 6x8s

1)How much modifying for the double din would have to be done?id like to keep it simple and neat. 2)you say "standard truck box",like the generic ones? do you think the jl w0's will be ok?not very loud but loud enough?? whats better for sound quality,sealed or ported with w0's?

2. a standard truck box like this would work. I would use a sealed box for sound quality. JL W0 subs are an excellent choice.

(1) it is din and 7/8 so break out the fibreglass. Use the scosche fd1300 pocket and it will leave you a single din hole. FD16 for the wire harness (2) agree with customsuberb (3) any shallow mount 10" sub that prefers a sealed box, W0 would be fine. (4) choose your subs first, that will dictate the sub amp. Most mono sub amps will do 4 ohm mono, 2 ohm mono and some 1 ohm mono. (5) Mb Quart 5x7 (6x8 to you yanks) sound awesome, really awesome. Add Brown Bread to the door skins, those doors are one huge beyatch, this will keep resonation to a minimum and improve the lower end from those speakers. (6) nothing but an Eclipse my man, this you can never go wrong with. The CD8443 would be the currect choice or the new CD8454 will spank all comers. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

2. I just installed a MTX Thunderform box 10' sub box. It is made custom formed for the f-150 it mounts under the driverside benchseat. The seat will not fold flat anymore but it will fold enough forward for you to get to your rear storage. The box customsuburb recommends does not fit. I think Q-Logic makes a box like also I think.

I have a 2003 F-150 Supercrew also. I opted to put in a Kenwood CD Deck ($119 @ Circuit City), used a install kit ($10 @ Walmart), 2 tweeters mounted in the front doors, stock 5"X7" door speakers, an in-dash electronic crossover, 1 15" Kicker Comp VR (mounted in a custom box in-between driver and passenger seats, rear firing), and 2 amps running the system, very nicely. It's a tight fit for the box that I made, but it works good. I'm in the process of rebuilding another box so that I can add cup holders and other things that I had lost by removing the center console.
