Hello,

I installed a JVC KDS6250 stereo into a mid 90's Saturn SL1. Anyways, Everything works ok except a few things....

I turn on the parking lights/headlights, the unit dies. I turn the unit up too high (playing from the aftermarket speakers) the unit dies and turns back on.

I am pretty sure I've got a bad ground so I'm going to replace that along with not using the constant power and ignition power from the harness. I'm going to get started on that tonight. However, what would the headlights have to do with anything? (The illimunation wire is not connected)

Why didn't you just use a wiring harness? It sounds like the ground you are using is the illumination ground. when the headlights turn on, it looses the ground and shuts off the hu.

I second the illumination/dimmer wire (i think the color is grey). Test the wire with a multimeter black probe of the DMM to ground and Red to the "Ground" wire you are using, then turn the headlights on and see if it meters 12v.

Hello Guys,

Well, I used a wiring harness. I guess the harness might have been labeled wrong. What you guys say makes sense. I hooked up black to black (from the aftermarket radio to the Soche (something like that) wiring harness) which both labels say ground. I'm gonna take a look at that later today (in the daylight) and actually just disconnect the ground from the aftermarket radio and ground directly to the chassis.

All right all right all right.....Finally figured out what it was. Took me about 1 minute after I had the connector out from the car into plain view. The black on that (ground) was pin 6 and the harness that connects to it after the aftermarket radio had the black at pinout 5. Moved the pin from the harness I purchased into slot 6 and plugged her all in. Bingo...everything works like a charm!

Either one, the Sosche harness had the ground in the wrong location or it fell out before I got my hands on it and someone accidently put it in the slot for pin 5. Either way, I wired the whole thing correctly the first time, however the harness had a little mistake! posted_image
