Ok weird thing happened to me....I started my car, turned on my stereo, sat around for a bit, opened up the tunk to get something, touched the carpet....then ZAP! i got a little ecectric shock (scared the bull sh*t out of me) my 15" sub jumped and now is dead.  WTF happened?  Fuses good amp 5-ch and all other 4 ch are still playing, but no sub.

Sounds like more than static electricity, sounds like the sub amp was somehow electirally connected to the carpet and you shorted it to ground by touching it.  Interesting.  I suspect the amp is what blew, unless you have fuses on your sub.  Does the woofer cone move in and out OK if you press it gently by hand?

If the woofer moves OK, then I would suspect the amp is the problem.  If the woofer binds or won't move at all, the voice coil is fried.

Carpets tend to be made from nylon or polyester (plastic) and do indeed conduct electricity.  Not very well, but they do.

if your ground is connected to the carpet in any way (bare metal, attached, or covered by it) it can conduct and if it shot through the ground it would only affect the sub channel because..... good question.... I dont see how it would just fry one channel.... weird.

Could be a loose wire or a stray strand of wire or cut insulation.

theres no way that much electricity could flow through carpet unless there was some sort of metal there

Ok i pulled the sub out, it is free moving, not seized up at all, no loose or disconnected wires.  solid ground and all wires hooked up secure from what i can tell.  Sub still not working :(
