Installed an Alpine CDA-9813 HU using the internal amp and the cooling fan doesn't come on. For some reason it will play a disk for a long time but with the radio on it will only play a song or 2 before it gets too hot and shuts down. It will power it back up after letting it cool. I have had it on the console and the fan has never come on. I have 10 guage from the battery to the yellow wire and the ground from the harness attached behind the dash.
Any thoughts? TIA
Randy
You may want to upgrade you ground to ten gauge. I probably won't solve your problem, but whats the point of upgrading your power cable if you ground is still the stock size? I have the same deck, but I haven't had any problems.
Thanks for the input. I had a 10 guage ground run to the battery so I hooked it up with no change. On tuner, unit started overheating immediately and would shut down after a coupla songs. On disk I never had it shut down. With my IR thermometer, the heat sink got up to 185 degrees still with no fan before I turned it off (out of fear)!
This is in my '94 landcruiser and I finally was told on the LC board to make sure the power antenna lead was not connected. I unhooked it from the harness and this was the problem. Unit never got over about 85 degrees while out on the console in 70 degree ambient (after 10 minutes or so) so I put her in and buttoned up the dash. Toyota thought of everything as there is even a fan under the dash blowing on the back of the HU!
Don't know why this was the problem but thanks for the help and I hope this helps someone in the future.
