I have purchased a new HU to install in my 04 Trailblazer. I have been reading through the forum and seen a few issues with the install. I just want to clear up a few things before i partake in this install. Is it the Pink wire that I will need to tap in to for switched power? Will this allow my HU to stay on when the key is removed until the door is opened like the factory HU? I have purchased the PAC SWI-X to retain steering wheel controls. Any idea on how to retain rear controls as well? Will I also lose my door chimes? I've heard rumor about erratic airbags. Is there any truth to that?
There is no OnStar or Bose system.
Sorry for the 101 questions just trying to get all the facts before I begin.
Any help or info that could be provided would be greatly appreaciated.

You need to tap into either the Brown or yellow wire from your main ignition harness. If you catch one of these, your HU will work the as your OEM unit did. However, you will loose your door chime. The erratic airbag comes into play if you have OnStar.

Do it right the first time
There are modules available that will give the retained acc. power feature as well as the door chimes. If you choose not to buy one, then the only way to retain the retained acc. power feature is to tap into one of the wires coming out of the rear fuse/relay panel. There are a couple possible wires depending on your vehicle's options. If you hav a sunroof look for a blue wire. The wires off the ignition switch will all go dead after the key is turned off. The BCM keeps the retained power relay active after turning the key off. It keeps the original radio on via a data bus. The rear controls will only work with the factory radio. Purchasing the correct module is the best way to go. It's worth the money to have things done right.

if its got that data retention crap on it then i always use the American International harness because it has a couple of relays built into it that keeps the chime .... it uses the driver door for the chime, and it comes with a single wire that gets wired to switch power
