I'm trying to hook up an aftermarket head unit to my stock amplifier.

I have a 2003 4runner with JBL 10 spk amp built in. I was reading the service manuals on the unit and I came across something that says to test the "Mute" function you have to hook a meter from the mute lead on the amp to ground and it should measure 3.5v with the mute off?

Why 3.5v and would this work with a standard aftermarket HU where the mute is grounded?
