3/4" MDF is what you should make it out of... you need to refer to your sub instructions or specs to find what volume the box needs to be and you need to get this part right or your subs will blow!  Id suggest a bandpass box if your just into the bass but if thats a daily driver id go with a sealed because SPL is great I love it myself but you wont get the sound quality with bandpass like you will with sealed and sealed still gives you great SPL... I have 4 Lightning Audio 12's in my lil ol' Jetta trunk and I rock the entire thing and all my boxes are sealed.

THIS IS WHAT THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL SAID EXACTLY

Notes:
1. Depending on the space available in your turnk select a large or small bass reflex enclosure (big or small box) or a band pass enclosure.

2. The diameter of the bass reflex tube (port 0) should not vary by more than a maximum of 10% in relation to the specified length (port1).

3. All the walls of the enclosure should have exactly the same thickness as the front panel.

4. Make the walls of the enclosure out of chipboard, bonded together with good wood glue.

5. Fasten the walls of the enclosure with screws with a spacing of apporx. 10cm.

6. Seal the enclosure from the inside with wood glue.

SO WUT THE HECK IS IT SAYING ? if not can u guys help me create one ?

well I just looked at a website woofersetc. and it said that the recommended sealed enclosure size is 1.25 cubic feet...

get 3/4 MDF and make the box so inside it has about 1.25 cubic feet of volume.  use wood glue on the sides of all the pieces to bond them together and put a screw about every 3 or 4 in.  make sure to pre drill the holes for the screw so you dont crack the wood.  you can also make it out of fiberglass if youve got money and patience.  ive made probably 20 or so MDF boxes and its really easy.  just make sure to get the airspace as close to 1 1/4 cu ft to get the best performance from your subs.  theres a box calculator on one site thatll tell you exactly what size to cut each side, but i forgot the website.  maybe someone else in here knows.

Volfenhag subs, eh?  Put them into the OEM cardboard box they came in and seal with masking tape.  Jab repeatedly with a long phillips head screwdriver.  Make sure the screwdriver penetrates all the way through the cardboard on both sides.  If you encounter resistance, you have hit the woofer magnet and must reorient your strike.  After 20 to 30 punctures, wire the subs in series and plug them into the 120V wall outlet in your garage.  Enjoy the smoke.  Unplug and toss entire assembly into the garbage can.  Buy good quality subs and start over.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

haha very good advice DYohn but back to the point... id use "Beats the Nail" on all crack and corners and use it to seal everything then drill tons and tons of screws in there but pre-drill holes first.

BangBang dont ever ask the bigger names on the forum to compete systems with you cuz trust me we all got huge ones.  The reason people dis on Volfenhag is because theres a reason theyre so cheap and thats because theyre crap.  People buy them because theyre cheap but theres no quality in them..

And I might add my RTA says the system is flat from 20Hz to 30KHz, and -3db at 16 Hz without outboard EQ or signal processing.  Gotta love those SEAS.

Well Bang Bang, you have confirmed my suspicions that you are about 12 years old mentally and probably not past the 6th grade intellectually.  You don't know how to speak to other people, and certainly don't know how to listen to them.  I've tried to help you and tried to have a little fun with you, but you obviously don't have the maturity nor the intellectual capacity to handle either.  You'll not get another answer from me to any of your posts, and I hope from no one else who knows what they're doing either.  Please go Bang somewhere else.

Dude, BangBang Needs to relax a little. He was just messing around with you, same way I was messing around with the tread about the best box for audiobahn subs. We poke fun at stuff like that because its funny, not because we wanna hurt someones feelings (unless they are running sony, then they deserve it :) ). This forum doesnt need that kinda profanity flying around like that. I mean to drop the ocasional f bomb or say sh*t ever now and again is one thing but, I counted like 7 f bombs in the post at the top of the page, and I dont know how many other ones before hand. Like learn to relax before you write a message and trying to go head to head with an established member like that is just stupid. Listen to what people are telling you, they arent going to say something just for the sake of saying it, 99% of the time guys like DYohn are right and the one percent of the times they arent right someone like Forbidden will say something about it. Now play nice

BangBang I have cable internet and i live with one of my buddies but anyways thats besides the point... you need to grow up a bit and take a little constructed criticism.  People say stuff about your subs because the quality of those have been known to be bad so like Clean Install says maybe your experience was better but somehow I doubt it.  And I dont have a tight ass right, just system... so maybe that clears things up a bit

Dude, seriously chill out with language, someone just may come up and ban you for it. I for one do not appreciate it at all. You have offered some advice to the site and learned a ton as well, it would be a shame to see you banned to the land of other forums when there is still so much for you to learn. Sometimes some of us poke fun at things like Bose, Sony, Infinity Factory, Volfenhag etc, but some of us can also express an opinion based on fact. The fact here is that the language is pretty downright nasty and has no business being on a good forum like this. The fact is that you responded to something that really ticked you off. The fact is that some of us will help you work with the vast dilemnas that you will encounter with any type of audio problem. (you seem to have lots - no worries though). The fact is that even if you have garbage subs (couldn't resist - sorry) we will still help you to make them work to the best of their abilities. If those subs were all you can afford, so be it, let's get them to work for you. Now let's back back on topic please. How are you making out with the box?

Ok Your shopping list should include the following

1sheet of 3/4" MDF

Wood Glue

Screws(if you have an air nailer, Brad nails)

Whatever you wanna cover the box in (ie carpet, vinyl, whatever.)

If you want to use carpet then you need some type of spray adhesive.

Did you ever figure out how much airspace you need for those subs? I Kinda need to know so I can tell you dimensions. Get back to me and we'll get you straitened out, but if I see one more * in your post on this tread im not gonna do anything for you because that was just childish.

Ok, Try to make a box 30 inches across the face, 15inces high, and 14inches deep. Check to see if that box will fit in your trunk. I dont drive a honda so I cant measure it for myself. Put a solid wall inside the box down the center so you have 2 chambers, with this wall and the speaker displacement it should give you the right air space. Also those numbers I gave you are exterior dimensions.

so then lets go by Length , height , and width.
30 inches long across the face. then 15 inches high, then 14 inches from the face to the back. THen put in  mdf board ijn the middle to creat 2 chambers.

do the wall that is inmiddle that will be dividing the chambers need to be glued and screwed?

then how do i create a whole or where do i create a whole for the speaker wires.. the.. umm.. wutcha call it... the thing..!! darn i can't remeber the name for it.

-------------

Posted By: bryceyaworsky
Date Posted: April 03, 2004 at 3:03 AM

yes, the divider needs to be screwed and glued.  For the speaker wire there are two ways to do it: 1) make cut-outs at the back for terminal cups  2) drill a slightly smaller hole than your speaker wire and feed it through.  Either way you need to seal it up on the inside with silicone.
