It's kinda fun hooking all this up to make one, although its kinda rigged.  I needed a 25 Hz test and found one as a download on a popular but controversial web forum.  It is an IASCA 25 Hz  tone.

Recorded it on a CD, then played it as a single track with the repeat button on.

I'll always try FREE first, if that don't work I'll negotiate!

No problem.  IASCA has specific test tones, I found a 25Hz tone.  You might also want to read an earlier post under title 'breakin' for some good opinion on the matter.

Do a search for "bass test" on Kazaa or Kazaa-Lite

But I was working with a DVC sub wired to 8 ohms, in the house.  I wouldn't have messed around like this if were a 4 ohm.

I mean the 4 ohm load wouldn't be compatible with my home equipment.

This is what I am doing for tuning my car

Type in "frequency generator" on google.com

all kinds of mad software available.

Aux line out = headphone jack = laptop

have at it.

Good call, fin!  I found one called Frequency Generator 6.2, it's a shareware with a 14 day trial.  It has wave file recording built in, so I am selecting frequencies and creating files for each one.  I will make a CD with these tracks and use it in the car to adjust frequencies on the crossovers.

And a lot of fun to play with, too.

I got the version number juxtaposed.  Here is the link https://www.softpile.com/Education/Mathematics/Review_21743_index.html

The download link is toward the bottom of the page.

I think you can do it also with software like Sound Forge or Acid Jazz. You set any frequency and any length etc etc. These are pro softwares but maybe bad idea because they are very (very) expensive. The sharewares seem more feasable. I will ask a buddy who has these (in a sound recording studio) and see if I can ask him to make me a CD.

My question: How long does a subwoofer speaker need to be playing at what frequency to get "broken in"? My Alpine "R" Sub isn't performing well, meaning I get great SPL but no SQ. Thanks.

I made a CD using the program I linked to above.  It's got a feature that allows you to select sine waves, and type in what freq you want.  Click "record" and create a file (read the Help).  I made about a minute of each freq from 19 to 50, then every 5 freq to 100Hz, then some select higher frequencies.  I just used the standard Roxio CD Creator to record.

Haven't done anything with it yet, but the program is free to use for 14 days.

i was told at mobile dynamics that you could use pretty much any type of sound, be it music, test tones or other wise. just dont blare it, and plan for a long relaxing drive. as well, fosgate states this somewhere. i also saw the 4 ohm sub in a home audio app. it is possible, but not really recommended for longer than about 5 mins.
