has anyone ever heard of this brand or had any experiences with them?

Yes, these are excellent quality, very fine loudspeakers.  Audax are used in many high-end home speaker systems.  I have used some of their Aerogel cone woofers in car applications and they make excellent mid-bass components.  Highly recomended.
