Whining is usually caused by a grounding issue, or by a speaker wire touching ground, or by a defective car electrical system.

ok i connected everything replaced a fuse and there is STILL engine noise! when all the grounds (amp ground and head unit ground) are clean and properly installed.

Are you useing the factory ground in the wiring harness for the head?  Try grounding it directly to the chassis.  Is it a Pioneer head?  What fuse did you need to replace?

are your power and rcas ran on opposite sides of the car?  If they are next to each other noise from the power wire can enter the rcas and cause the whinning.

its an old 2002 sony xplod cassete deck with cd changer in the back i really dont know the model #, but before my brother said when you take of the face plate it used to whine but when you put it back on it doesnt. but now when i hooked it up it was whinning at first i check the RCA's and it would only whine when i plug the RCA's to the 4ch amp to the front side. now i looked on the sub amp that FUSE was blown. i replaced it. hooked everything back up again and it was working fine, but it was whinning off and on. and yes RCA's and power are runnning on opposite sides. BUT, in order to accomodate for the wire i had to use, i had to put the Distro block right beside the two amps, RCA's are right next beside it as well as just one speaker wires are running for the subs. could this be the prob!?

2002 is not exactly OLD, but it sounds to me like the head unit is the problem.  Try running a new seperate ground for the HU to the chassis and see if it helps.

Ah, you didn't mention an EQ.  ALWAYS list all the equipment in your system, please, as it really helps and saves time!  In MANY systems, an EQ is a cause for whine, especially older or cheap EQs used with newer heads.  Toss it into the garbage (or sell it on eBay.)
