As some of you may know, Alpine announced a while back a device that will allow Ai-Net to integrate to the iPod, so that you can hear your iPod thru the radio, power it AND control it. It will even show song titles, etc, and let you fully use your iPod from the HU.

Does anyone know if this type of functionality is going to be available for Eclipse? Does Eclipse even have a smart enough bus like Ai-net that can do that? I would think with the whole E-Comm thing going on that anything is possible.

I would suspect that the higher end audiophile systems like Eclipse or Nakamichi will be the last to include device communications like you describe.  These will always show up in consumer-oriented equipment first like Alpine and others.  Of course, if you ask snobbish audiophiles, they would never play MP3's anyway since the sound quality is simply not up to what a CD can produce...

I'm going to Japan in May so I'll take a look at the new stuff from Eclipse that hasn't made it over here yet, and I'll report on what I see.
