Hey, just wondering what you guys thought the difference was in SQ/SPL between hatchbacks and trunks, most small systems ive heard in hatch's sound alot better then they would in trunks, ive heard its a difference of 3db, or double the cone of the subs.

Its definately true that when the subs are in the same cabin as you that the sound is better. When subs are placed in a trunk they are basically sealed away from the rest of the car, which is why i will never own a car, trucks and SUV's all the way! You can build a port through the back seats and it will sound a heck of a lot better, but nothing compares to subs being in the same cabin as you.

ya but then there is the cars where you have the back seats folding down like my cavalier. that essentially is the same thing as being in the same cabin.

yea true all that stuff, my back deck on my car is really small to so most of the trunk is trunk lid which looses sound because theirs not alot of room for the bass to port through, my friend with two powerbase's 350w peak get insanly loud with a laser becuase its hatch off of only a lanzar 800wluckyily its a small trunk though. i cracked my backseats bout an inch that helps, a little i just dont like puttin the back seats down, next car ill b a hatch, anyone know how good a eclipse is for a system??

Yea depending on what you have if you let your backseat down you can actually hear the subs movements....which makes everything sound like poo.

actually i really wanna get myself a Honda CRX, wow they're loud for subs, especially if you have a ported box, i would say a single punch HX2 in a ported box would do the trick. or even a single ported digital designs sub. (tips head back and drools).

my ex gf has a system i helped her build in her 03 civic(used to be in a 95 t-bird), consists of a 10" eclipse aluminum dvc in a large vented box, 600 watt Xtant amp, and some mbquart speakers connected to an alpine head unit. seat up or down, that thing will hit so hard it hurts. sounds VERY clean when you turn it down too.

i had a MTX 15 in my old hatchback before it died and it was hella loud. however, when i put it in the trunk of my other car it seemed alot louder and i think it sounded better imo. although i always have my back seat folded down. i think im actually going to put bucket seats in the back so theres always a space going into the trunk so i dont have to fold the seat down.

I have a full size bronco and thats the sh*t. I have 8 MSX audio 12's in the back. A full size suv always hits the spot.

yea, thanks guys, and does anyone know the demensions of the smallest width part of a eclipse hatchback?? the 95-99's, and do you think a hatch is a 3db gain? so along with a hatch and good sound deadning you might gain near 5db of more sound? audiobahn10s)

Is porting a decklid as simple as cutting holes and inserting ports or is there some equation to get it tuned properly. i have 2 audiobahn aw12its in a sealed box it was run buy a mtx 6500D amp until this afternoon when it died, but since i had an extended warrenty on the amp im going to get the audiobahn 8000T amp. I am a little disapointed to see that the audiobahns arn't holding up to well but thats why i buy subs from , don't laugh, Circuit City for a little bit extra you can get a warranty.I just want more sound in the cabin of the car, not the trunk.

yes it is and no its not, you still have to take into consideration the length of the ports. if you extend your ports through the rear deck you need to remeber that the length of the port inside and out side of your enclosure have to be added together and all. to your desired tuning fhz.

Ideally I would have a large box ported directley into the cabin of the car, but since i have a sealed box 2 cubic feet i believe how long should my ports be, I was thinking one or two slotted ports near the top of the backseat between the 5x7s would be less obvious than two or three large circular ports so what would be ideal? This is of course open to anyone with any input.

you could also, get some small 4" grills if you were to use round ports.
