Hi,
I'm trying to install a new head unit in a 91 Celica GTS. The problem is, the factory stereo wiring comes straight out of the main vehicle harness (the big black taped thing) and terminates in the plug that goes into the back of the factory stereo. There is no intermediate harness to unplug the factory unit from, and plug the new units harness into.
To complicate matters, most of the color-coding info I've found describes the wire colors in the harness that isn't there, or is for a later vehicle with a factory amp. The only link to a factory wiring diagram I was able to find is behind a dealer-only login screen, so I can't even build a new harness or hard-wire it in.
I have also been unable to find any info on the factory unit (fujitsu CE 7235 TL), so identifying the wires from that angle is out.
In theory I could trace most of the wires with a meter and build a harness from there, but that seems like an extremely time-consuming (not to mention uncertain) solution to what looks like a really simple problem.
I've tried a number of car audio places/dealerships in search of advice/parts and none of them have seen anything like this setup before. Anyone have any ideas?
Chances are that you have a factory amplified system, you may need the service manual for the vehicle to chase down the wiring. A lot of Toyota vehicles are like this, especially if they are GTS or SR5 models.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
If you follow the single plug harness down, you will find that where it plugs into the factory amp are the two blue harnesses that most places sale adapters for. Your factory amp is either directly beneath your HU or to the right of it, between your HU and the glove box.
