I recently bought 2 12" Kicker L7's (2-ohm models). I'm now looking for an amp that matches up nice with the speakers. I'm looking at the Orion 250G5 which is an 800x2 amp stable to 1 ohm. Am I right in thinking that if I hook one DVC sub up to each channel, and connect the coils in parallel ( positive to positive and negative to negative), then the amp will run at 1 ohm putting 400 watts (maybe more) to each sub? Am I right about this, also anyone have any other suggestions for amps and how to wire them to get my stuff running at 1 ohm?

Yeah that will work. If it is one ohm stable per channel. The dual 2 ohms subs will run one ohm each if you run them in parallel. ------------- Soccer_aholic

The Orion HCCA 250G5 is a competition amp rated at 200 watts X 2 into 1-ohm per channel, or 400 watts X 1 into 2 ohms. Since this is the same thing, I recomend you connect your subs in series-parallel and bridge the amp into the 2-ohm load. This will ensure both subs get the exact same signal since the amp will operate in mono which helps prevent cancellation effects. Connect them like this:

I was under the impression that the Orion put out 800 W. If what you're sayin is true, then I'm looking for more RMS power. I'd like about 200 W to each coil. I'm also willin to put out upto about $600. Can u recommend a different amp, or maybe two smaller amps (one for each sub)?

Yes, 400 watts is about the max RMS power for a S12L7 unless you use a relatively high subsonic filter of 25Hz. Since I think that's entirely too limiting for the performance of these drivers, 400W is a good target. So, you need approximately 800 watts mono stable at 2 ohms for under $600? Take a look at the Hifonics ZEUS BRUTUS BX1500D, a JBL BP1200.1, MTX THUNDER 801D, a PHEONIX GOLD OCTANE R 15.0:1, or a PLANET AUDIO APD.

That amp requires a 4-ohm load when bridged, which you cannot produce with two DVC 2-ohm speakers.

PPI PCX 1500 is a 1000 watt at 2-ohm amp. It's a bit past your $600 target, but a good choice. If it was me, I'd go for an APD as my first choice and JBL second.

I'm gonna go with the PPI, how would I wire it to the two DVC subs to ensure that the amp will be seeing a 2-ohm load?

Eclipse makes a digital monoblock that is rated 2000 watts... Should be around 900 bux. A bit more than you really wanted to spend, but you would never need any more power. Wire the woofer vouce coils in series, (2+2=4) then parallel them on the amp (4/2=2)... Bingo! 2 ohms, 2000 watts! 3 year warranty! Digital Efficiency! Beaucoup Power! Look into that as an option.

2000 watts is a little over the rms of the kicker subs.
