I was debating on getting 3 12 inch JL audio W6 subs or 2 12 inch Alpine Type R subs. Could anyone give me their opinions on the both.  Also, are these subs made for sound pressure(competition), or sound quality? Thanks....

I too would go with the JL subs but then again I would take Eclipse above the JL (not trying to confuse the issue though)posted_image

If version 1 JL's, then definately the alpines are better, , but if you are talking about the W6v2 then go for the JL.

i would go with 12" VOLfenhag subs or 12" sony xplods there good they blew my trunk off while i was driving serious.... and cracked my back windo fo sho.. cuz i was playing music then all of a sudden cracka lakin...

well if u go fo sound quality then get the alpines.

but if u want bull sh*t bass, and distortion go with my suggestion on the 12" subs thanx fo sho!

jl all the way sq and spl. I'm no audio snob, but I wouldn't get sony anything. much less  volfenhags. I'm saying if you like them go for it so don't let me stop you.

go with the old model JL's, the W6's were probably the best subs around for a long time, ya know until now, almost every company has some bad ass sub now.  i had 2 12W6's in a single cab F150, one on a mtx 240 and one on a power acoustik 400( i know, i know ghetto like a mofo, but that was along time ago)  but they made my cd player skip, they slammed.  then i sold one and got a new eclipse.  i put the one W6 in a small sealed box on an MA Audio HC1302, HOLY SH1T!!!! my windshield moved a good bit.. just to stress i highly back old school JL, i haven't really heard the new stuff though, i'm big into kicker now,  i got 1 10" compvr in a 1.25ft3 box tuned to 26Hz that amazes everyone.  sounds like 2 12".  you should think about kicker, they sound great and are reasonably priced.  the most expensive on is the L7 and for a 12 you're lookin at $350.  not bad when a 12w7 is like $700 and you need 2000 watts to push it.  not knockin JL but the new stuff is a bit pricey

also the old JL's came with either dual 3 ohm or dual 6 ohm coils so if you do three you can get a 1 ohm load instead of 1.33 with 3 4 ohm subs. make sure you have a high current amp that can handle that though so you don't fry anything
