When my subwoofers play for awhile there is like a metally smell that I think comes from the amplfier. Its not a very strong smell but if u put ur head in my truck you can smell it. Is this smell bad or normal and what causes it.

Sounds like you are smelling heat build up. Your power amps and your subs can generate large amounts of heat so there must be sufficient air flow to allow them to cool. Some sub enclosures that are either over-stuffed or improperly stuffed can create smells from the subs burning the polyfill inside the enclosure. This is especially noticable in high powered ported systems. ------------- Support the12volt.com

if the box is brand new then its probably just the dust burning off the voice coils.

I have the same problem and let me tell you that I fixed the problem by not blasting away all of my hearing and suggest that you do the same. IE- I am powering 2 Volfenhag zx-412's at a load of 4 ohms total with a Koiiler 1500, 1500 watts peak into 4 ohms a little over 1000 continuous and that produces over 120 DB in the cab with a tuned ported 40 hz box, anyway it was starting to smell up really good and I was expieriencing constant headaches so just by turning it all down has helped both problems alot. Remember that even though you "can" doesn't mean you should listen at killer volumes at all time. Don't mean to preach but just trying to share a similar problem with other reprecussions.
