the sub is not stable at 2 ohm......and if i do get an amp..........its gotta be cheap.....i think.....man i dunno im pissed though, the amp is four ohms, and the sub is 4 ohm and for sum reason it blew its pisses me off, cuz my paid 1300 for a system and in a year and a half it blows....they gipped us on the set up anyways. would u say a 500/1 on that ONE sub??????? that doesnt make since if the RMS is 300 and peak is 600 and the jl 500/1 is 800 max or so.......please explain in DETAIL if u will

Theres no such thing as a un stable sub.   Your sub can be wired to 2, or 8 ohm.   That is why you blew your amp.  You had it wired to 2 ohm on an amp only stable to 4 ohm, thats where it went wrong, the install.  You shouldn't let a non authorized installer to install your equipment, thats why lots of companys don't honor waranty unless an install receipt is shown.

I said go for around a 500 wrms amp is because that way you wont over stress the amp to get the potential of the sub.

What is your price range that your willing to spend on an amp? That way its easier for us to reccomend the best amp in your price range.

You want real power for your money??  Go for a Volfenhag amp!!!  Cheap but very effective.  Much less than your 300 limit.posted_image

If you really insist on spending more, you might think about a fosgate RF.  It will put you around your limit, but they work well with the Eclipse subs.  Remember to get a little higher RMS on the amp than the sub is rated at.  This will keep from overworking the amp to push the eclipse.  All you have to do is tone the gain down a bit.

Planet Audio is a killer amp.  I run an older model Saturn and LOVE it.  I used to sell them and they are great.  Volfenhag is flea-market quality CRAP - they make real expensive fuses dressed up to look like subs and amps.  Don't waste your money.  I think "volfenhag" is Chinese for "ha ha, we ripped you off!"

OK!!  First of all, I am a Volfenhag dealer and I haven't had a lick of trouble out of them!!  As a matter of fact, my installs are winning competitions all over the place.  I am out performing any Eclipse I have come across.  Sure, the amps aren't as good as some of the upper priced ones, but the subs hit HARD!!  The only ones I have had to warranty are the ones that people have installed on their own and have no idea how to set them up.  I have other product lines that I sell, and I'd put the Volfenhag's up against any one of them.  By the way, Volfenhag is German, Not Chinese!!!

No it will not, it will allow a good amount of headroom. Keep the gain as low as possible to prevent sss (smelly speaker syndrome) (did not happen in your case though). If your cd player has a sub level control, then you may want to keep it down nice and low as well. There is nothing wrong with having too much power (depending on how you use it).

Thats funny. Volfenhag set up right couldn't come close to an Eclipse set up wrong.

one other thing, seeing i would rather not send my sub back to eclipse.....is a PROfessionally repaired sub as good as a new sub? this way the 1200/1  can just be setup for these two

No offence but you dumb if you get a volfenhag, that is the dumbest thing i have ever herd of some one saying on this......lmao.....for the price you are willing to dish out i would go with power acoustik,SPL, R/F there are great deals on all of them at millionbuy.com.
just spend your money like you no how don't waist in on volfenhag!

and another thing you should have bridged your subs with your old amp it would have raised the ohms, and lasted longer, there is such thing as 2ohm stable 4ohmstable and 8ohm stable, for amps and subs
thank you any other ????

I will be glad to debate that last post, pretty sure a lot of other people will as well. Framedragger, if your sub is still under warranty, send it back to Eclipse and get the cone  / voice coil replaced. This in fact makes it a brand new sub. If the voice coils are fine then a simple reglue of the cone to the surround will be fine.

re: repaired as good as new.  Actually, a repaired speaker is evry bit as good as a new one, as long as the repair was done by someone who knows their business.  Indeed, I have used re-coned speakers in professional applications many times, and often the performance exceeds the OEM specs.
