My search for components is finally drawing to an end.  I've finally had a chance to hear some Focal's, and I'm sold.  I'm looking into buying a set of 165K 2-ways.  A store near me has them on sale.  My question is, what amp should I look at for powering these?  Focal says 80 watts is the nominal amount of power, 160 is max.  I'm not sure how much I want to spend yet, so prices along with recommendations would be great.  I'm partial to Phoenix Gold, but I'm open to anything.  I am looking for SQ obviously.  Also, should I build baffles fot the mids?  They will be going in the factory door locations.  Thanks for the help!

Fastev - I'm trying to decide the same question for the speakers I've decided on - Mb Quart PCE 6.5" w/ similar wattage specs.  I've been seeing 3 different power grades of amps of so called "good" brands and have similar questions.

Been looking at Zapco, Xtant, Diamond, Memphis, and Alpine

1)  50x2  .. is this underpowering a pair of nice components?
2)  75-100x2  .. Will this do a better job?
3)  150x2 .. is this necessary?

Thanks!

Alpine MRV-F540, 80wrms x 4 at 4 ohm, 100wrms x 4 at 2 ohm.

2 of my co workers have them, and they are just too much power, but who can complain right?

Im getting one next week hopefully!

Im running a micro dimmensions amp to my components and I am super happy with it. I dont really know what other peoples opinions are on them but to me its one of the best sounding speaker amps I have ever found. It ran me about $600 bucks canadian but I think it was worth it.

Raven .. how much wattage per channel are your components getting?  I do have a budget, so I'm trying to find that sweet spot between too little power and wasting money.

Alright guys, what do you think about these 3 amps for the mb quart pce 6.5" components:

Xtant A2002 - 50x2 @ 4ohms
Alpine T420 - ~100x2 @ 4 ohms
Zapco iForce - 100x2 @ 4 ohms
Diamond D5300.2 - 75x2 @ 4 ohms
Memphis 16MC300 - 150x2 @ 4 ohms
Zapco Reference 350.2 - 175x2 @ 4 ohms

These amps are in order of increasing price.  I want the best mix of price, quality, and appropriate power for my new components.  What do you say?  Which one should I buy?

I was leaning towards the Alpine because it seems like a good price/watt ratio for me.  Will I be happy with it compared to the others?

Thanks
